Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a reservation?

     We are a walk-in friendly studio! Reservations are recommended for parties of 5 or more on our busier days such as weekends, holidays, and school vacations. You can book a reservation by calling us at 860-430-6255 or emailing us at inquiries@glazedct.com.

How much does it cost to paint?

     We will never charge you for your time here! All of our pottery is individually priced including the cost of supplies. All you pay for is the cost of the item. Items range anywhere from $14 - $100+, most items fall between the $25- $45 range. There is something for everyone, from piggy banks to boxes, mugs to large platters, and we always have a selection of seasonal items.

What if I don't know how to paint?

     Have no fear! Not only do we have tons of fun supplies (sponges, stencils, masking tape, and more) to help you create a masterpiece, our staff is hands on in helping you achieve anything you may have in your mind... and if you don't have a creative idea, we still have you covered with our "Coloring Book Pottery." These items have a pre-painted black outline so all you have to do is fill in the color!

How much time should I plan to spend at the studio?

     We recommend at least 2 hours to start. It can often take up to 20 minutes to choose your pottery and get settled with your paint choices before you begin to paint. We recommend getting 3 good layers of paint on your item so it can take longer to paint than you might expect. Keep in mind that larger items and things with more detail can take even longer. Generally, children ages 5 or under can take anywhere from 15 - 30 minutes to paint. 

Do I get to take home my pottery the same day I paint it?

     All items must be kiln fired before you can take them home. Therefore they will be ready for pick up 7 days from the day they are painted. You will be given a pick up date at the bottom of your receipt at check out. You have up to 6 weeks from the day of your scheduled pick up date to retrieve your finished pottery. 

Why does it take 7 days to get my pottery back?

     Once you leave our studio your pottery must dry completely before we prepare it for the kiln. Before firing, we dip your pottery in a clear glaze to seal it. Once the clear glaze has dried your pottery will go into the queue for the kiln. A kiln firing can take up to 24 hours to complete and cool. 

What happens to my pottery if I forget to pick it up?

     You have up to 6 weeks from your pick up date to retrieve your finished items. We will call to remind you close to the 6 week period and give you final notice. If you are unable to pick up your pottery we can always ship it to you for an additional cost. After 6 weeks, all finished pieces become the property of Glazed and will be used as display pieces or donated. 

What if I don't finish?

     If you don't finish your item the same day you start it, you are welcome to come back to finish. There is a flat fee of $10 per piece of pottery for each day that you come back to paint. We will store your item in a dust-free environment on the premise to keep it extra safe. Bring a friend along, if they purchase a piece of pottery to paint, your studio fee for that day is waived!! * Please note that one purchase waives one fee. The $10 fee applies to each piece of unfinished pottery.

How long will you hold unfinished pottery for?

     We will hold your unfinished pottery for 6 weeks. If your item is still unfinished after 6 weeks we will notify you by phone. The item will then be fired as is and ready for pick up 7 days later. 

Does the paint stain?

     All of the glazes we use for painting pottery are water based and washable. We do provide aprons in studio if you would like to wear one for extra protection!

Are my items food safe?

     Once your pottery is fired in the kiln it is not only food safe but microwave and dishwasher safe as well.

Can I bring food and drink?

     Food and drink are welcome in the studio. We recommend non-greasy food items as grease can interfere with the glazes. All food and drink items must stay with you at your table at all times. 

Can I paint a piece that was not purchased at Glazed?

     Outside items are not allowed in our studio and cannot be fired in our kiln. This is a precaution we take in order to keep our customers items in our kiln safe. 

Do you do birthday parties?

     We have TWO private party rooms here at Glazed perfect for ALL occasions! View our "parties and private events" tab for more information.

Do you do special events and classes?

     We are always coming up with fun new events and classes for all ages. Follow us on social media, sign up for our emails, or view our "classes" tab to see what happening at Glazed!

Do you do canvas painting?

     Canvas painting nights are schedule for special events or classes. We use acrylic paints for canvases which are not compatible with out pottery so we prefer to keep them for special occasions. If you are interested in a canvas night feel free to send us a message on our "contact us" tab, we always love to hear customer feedback!

Do you do fundraising events?

     We would be happy to work with your cause for a fundraising event. Feel free to fill out a contact form at the bottom of the "parties and private events" tab for more information.

Do you ship?

     Yes, we do! If you have an address we can give you a price quote. We will ship to anywhere in the continental US. 

Do you commission custom artwork?

     Absolutely, we have custom artists on staff who would love to work with you to create a custom piece of art. We are even happy to add lettering or a little extra something to your pottery to complete it. Talk with a staff member about ideas and pricing!

Do you sell gift certificates?

     Gift certificates can be purchased in studio in any amount you would like.
